Intake! To fit or not to fit? That is the question.
« on: April 03, 2012, 07:18:01 pm »
I need your help to help me decide what to do. I am getting that itchy feeling of wanting to fit one but I know I went back to the OE cover to tone down the noise. However after watching BTCC it has got me wanting an intake again.

Cheers Matt

if noise bothers you don't fit it.... There would always be some noise above OEM level with whaetever intake you fit!

Steve's is a different beast but ask his opinion on intake noise as that version is enclosed & looks impressive.

I voted VWR/ITG

I was told by VWR that the ITG intake is only available through them now.

So, who is up for me making some?  Same as fitted to my car?

But the Evoms gets my vote for the great price of it.

If you can make the AWE CCB intake fit K04 (ED30) I would buy one of them or even the Volant Powercore system if that could fit K04 as I would prefer the closed box design both for aesthetics and for keeping it quieter, plus its not an ITG or Twintake like everyone else has  :happy2: plus AWE is Carbon   although im not that handy with spanners so dont know what needs adding, hence not done it yet.

Looking at the info on the AWE system it seems to make similar power gains to Twintake (15bhp), I am not fussed about "losing" 3 or 4 bhp over ITG/Twintake (I am not losing it as I never had it to start with :happy2:)

AWE CCB INtake http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/vw-1/mk5-g-j-2006/2-0t/awe-20t-ccb.html

Volant Intake  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300613063489?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I take it as VWR saying only available from them, that means the price has gone up 30%  :signLOL:

and when I say made their own I mean pieced together using different kits, using parts of ebay (such as the piping and connectors) and then buying the filter seperate or using one they already had

Thankyou for the input so far :happy2: That Volant looks good but I dont know whether it would fit my octy with the design of the air box on it. But its a good price and looks to be well made.

Im just wondering which non believers voted for the missis handbag  :signLOL:

Im just wondering which non believers voted for the missis handbag  :signLOL:

That would be me as I dont like the Twintake, ITG/VWR, Dbilas or Evoms, less sheep more wolf  :signLOL:

Had there been an option for Volant or AWE I would have voted for either of them instead of the handbag :happy2:

Just spoke to Uk importer of the AWE and although they have requested a model for K04 they ahve not made one yet!, he told me it was a simple matter of adding the feed for the pipe as it will bolt straight up after adding the feed for remote DV, looks like this is the way im going with my intake  :happy2:

I could turn either of those kits into K04 fitment.  Just needs a 25mm take off welding on.  :happy2:

.
We are all likely to recommend the intake we have ourselves.

Review of intake options but essentially of the Forge Twintake:  http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,9988.0.html

tbh KREGIEL is right.  If you dont want noise, then i wouldnt get an intake because they are all noisy.

Whats your mod lst.  There must be something missing off your list worthy of £350 of your hard earned

if adding an intake like itg etc etc mean having to get your  remap tweaked to get the best out of it, or is it just fit and go?
