modifying my gti
« on: April 07, 2012, 06:47:10 pm »
Hi,

Any advice will be appreciated.

I have owned my black 55 plate gti 200 for 1 and a half years and have decided to modify it. I originally was just going to re-map it but am thinking to put an intercooler on it, mll-tek cat back exhaust, k04, induction system and last but not least rolling road re-map at AMD in essex.

I wondered if anyone has done similar or the same and what BHP gains they have achieved and is the car still smooth and pleasurable to drive.

The following link is the intercooler i will be ordering tonight...

is this any good and will i notice a power gain once i have fitted it???

Like i say, any advise / comments will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Sean.

i have gone from standard gti to K04 and love it. It has transformed the car totally - the same practicality with sports car handling and performance. That's why I decided to keep the golf and mod it as opposed to going for m3 and likes.... One of the biggest advantage of modded golf is apart from practicality, TFSI engine is very economical once driven sensibly something you would never get with bigger engine. Also maintenance cost are lowish due to relatively small engine - servicing costs, amount of oil, spark plugs etc something to consider when car used as a daily driver.
Putting K04 still retains standard gti smoothness and drivability.

Note however that with more power supporting mods are required. Big brake kit is a must and better suspension something to consider as car becomes lightning quick and before you realise you might find yourself in illegal speed territory.

Fire away if you have any other questions

Thats excellent paul, thanks for that.

I have decided to go for an s3 intercooler now as it seems an all round gooden for this car. I am going to ask my mechanic on tues what he will charge to fit one and poss go TPS to get a price for a new one. I'm going to get 'green stuff' pads for time being and when i get a ko4 on her i'll probably get the brakes and suspension changed when having the re-map done.

very excited!!!

what intercooler have you opted for?

I have forge IC due to ease of installation as it's straight bolt on, however it's pricier then others.....
