REALLY annoying rattle from hatch/parcel shelf area
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:53:23 pm »

I've got an annoying rattle from hatch/parcel shelf area. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Is there a common rattle in this area?

It seems worse on bumpier roads and is deffinately an interior issue.

Thanks in anticipation, any help really appreciated.

It's not the stupid parcel shelf plastic cord thingys is it?

When the boots closed the plastic balls on the end of cord flail around knocking and banging. This maybe?

My rear interior light rattles some times DOING MY HEAD IN

Its worth tucking the parcel shelf balls into the netting just in case it's that Ian :happy2:

Thanks Freddy, but It's not the parcel shelf itself, as I took it out and laid it flat on the boot floor, it sounds like it's  coming from that area though, between back seat and hatch.

Rear interior light? I'll check that, thanks. It sounds like a larger part than that though TBH.

i had a really annoying rattle in my boot. couldnt find it for ages. i found it was the little rubber stops on the hatch needed adjusting out a little bit as the boot was rattling when shut .the ones that sit on the rubber plates just above the rear lights when the boot shuts. also my boot catch was a little loose so just tightend it up. that seem to sort mine out.

my golfs got rattles coming from everywhere. mined you i do live on a really bumper road. my transit van got less rattles than my golf.

Thanks for that, I'll check that in the morning. They make those Transits well nowadays don't they?  :signLOL: I've got a Tranny Connect, and it's bomb-proof!

Could be the tailgate rattling on the striker. When the rubber seals bed in, causes this issue. Like pd9264 says, wind the plastic stops out might solve it :happy2:

yeah i no mate they are bomb proof. the way i found out the hatch was rattling was shut the hatch. then place your palms on the hatch under the inner tail lights and give it a rattle.  also try aying your back seats down because sometimes they rattle on the catch

Sorry, but where are these little rubber stops supposed to be, and where is the 'striker'?

there just under the boot hatch struts. you adjust them by undoing the allen key in the centre, pull them out a little bit the tighten the allen key back up.
