torque limit on dsg box with stgae 2+ remap?
« on: April 10, 2012, 07:48:01 pm »
ive had a stage 2+ remap done recently for my edition 30, and find accelerating in low revs (2-4000) quite sluggish. All the power kicks in over 4000 revs. Its as if the car is holding back. Could it be the dsg box preset torque limit is restricting the delivery of power? has anyone with a dsg edition 30 stage 2+ found the same problem? any thoughts on dsg remap and if it could solve things? really need some help on this, as im at a loss of what to do.

I know Hurdy had some ridiculous amount of Torque through his with NOS on his DSG ED30. I think he had his boxed mapped but not certain.

I had my box mapped, and it was like night and day the difference, everything changes, torque limits, pressure the clutches bite, full manual control, revs up to 7400 to give full potential of the engine remap. Well worth it pal best thing after an engine map in my opinion and then a LSD. :happy2:

i dont want to name the remapper until i get things sorted. im going back to him on thursday - he has told me its the torque limit of the dsg affecting things, and that changing the ecu map further will not improve things. he says i now need a dsg map , and of course thats more cash. i had kinda hoped that the stage 2+ ecu map he did would have had the car sorted from the outset.
i would like a revo stage 2+ map but the nearest one is miles away, and the revo dsg stage 2 remap sounds just the ticket.
and as for the quaiffe lsd i would love to get one. ultimately it would complete the package

There are 2 sets of torque limiters, lets not get these confused, so we will call them set 1&2

Set 1 are part of the ENGINE ECU
Set 2 are part of the GEARBOX ECU

As part of tuning the engine ECU the in-gear torque limiters (which can easily be missed, I have done this twice on a certain software version) must be raised. If not then at STG2+ the engine feels flat as the torque hits the limiter and flatlines. This does not happen with most maps, all Revo and APR maps will have these parameters corrected in the map and the dealers do not alter them.

There is a software version (vag number ends in 115L if you look at engine ECU id in vagcom) where the torque limiters are always at a different map address, and quite easily missed.

that explains my problem then.
so this guy should be able to raise torque limit on ECU at this different address without having to remap the gearbox?
if this torque limit is not raised on ECU, will a subsequent dsg remap still not cure the problem?

At stg2+ you should easily achieve 350+ ftlb without any DSG maps altered. If your tuner is buying in their maps from a file supplier they may not have mentioned its a DSG car, if the file tuner is using a driver to create your file then they may just use a matching driver that was for a manual car. So many possibilities as to whet is causing the issue, may be an underlying fault on the engine i.e weak coilpack, faulty DV etc....

thanks PDT. i had DV changed for oem rev d dv. had service performed and rest of engine given all clear. I think its more likely the ECU needs torque limit raised. can you give me any more info on finding and changin the in gear torque limiters ?

Hi,

I cant give you exact details, this is what your tuner charges you for

Ask your tuner if they buy their files in, if they claim not to do so, ask them to show you the maps they have altered, how they altered them and what the maps do.

Did any issues show up during the / dyno testing they did after the map was complete?

strangely the dyno didnt work... it was on dynopack... and tuner told me the high torque was making the machine unable to perform the dyno properly.
the tuner claims to modify his own files, he did show me some of his files  compared to other tuning companies. when i see him tomorrow ill ask him to look for the ECU in gear torque limiters and raise those. i just dont think the DSG map will solve the issue. if he wont do that i think il be getting the car reverted to normal and il take my business elsewhere...
