« on: April 05, 2012, 12:26:21 pm »
Hi people, can anyone confirm when to change cambelt/timing belt on an MK5 GTI? I had her done at 52k and am currently at 80k.

Thank you.

Marty.

It's supposed to be every 4 years \ 60,000 miles.

Mine is due in October. I'm only on 30,000 and can't help but think when teu change it the old one will be in perfect condition.

I really think its a bit of a scam and a cam belt done at 5 years is perfectly same.
I think Audi actually state 5 years so what's that saying about VW.

Yes I got mine done at 4yrs - 52k, so I should be good until 8yrs - 120k?
Tim, what are you planning to do with yours? will you wait until 60k to change it?

Thanks for the reply. :happy2:

It's down to the dealer i think. My golf come with full VW history, was checked at 60k service but deemed fine. Says next check is 20k/2years. I had it done for peace of mind at 74k shortly after getting the car. (56 plate)

there's debate/confusion around the mileage. Basically the mileage is anywhere from 40k-60k. It used to be 80k but this was way back when. The one thing that isn't up for debate is the 4 years  :happy2:

Make sure you get the water pump changed at the same time.

Cheers Frenzy, I'll definately get the water pump done at the same time! So my car has now turned 6yrs with 80k on the clock, should I wait till she's 8yr old to change the belt?

Many thanks

No. If she hasn't had a belt and pump change ever, then she needs one now  :happy2:
