MOT tomurrow, any checklists out there?
« on: April 11, 2012, 01:58:43 pm »
Got my MOT tomurrow at lunch time with the mechanic doing emissions first to see whether I need to go home and get my old cat (he said its not a problem but would need to charge me a little extra for doing the swapping) he said to get the car chipped first and mot it afterwards but I don't have time.

So far i think im looking pretty sound for a test

Brakes : new
Wipers : good
Oil : good
Coolant : good but also top up tomurrow
Wiper fluid : good but will also top up tomurrow
Engine check light : will clear tonight
Bulbs and Lighting : all good
Tires : good

Any advice for the emissions? should I give the car a really good blast before I drop it off? I was on the motorway monday coming from bristol so presume that would of helped a lot but read somewhere you should give it a quick blast.

Many thanks

You would be extremely lucky if you pass with no cat.

Didn't think so, If I had my old mechanic it would of been a favour - but got a new one whos really nice and genuine and helpful but think i will be paying for swapping the two over.. oh well atleast I could heat wrap it while its off the car

Found one last night  :happy2:

All checks done, going for a quick thrash at 1.00pm, clear engine like 1.30 and then garage to do a preliminary emissions test. If it fails then we have to do the long winded exhaust swap and if it passes then he said the car will sail through  :happy2:

only problem is this morning at work one of the guys said he's mechanic would pass it but I think im gunna stick to the new mechanic as he is very good and at the end of the day thats how you get to know your mechanic and get better rates and more favours in the long run. I don't think many mechanics would offer you a chance emissions test before the mot and not charge you if you don't know them or only ever go in to have your brakes and tires changed without having a chat so feel like im building a good relation  :happy2:

Plus he has a gorgous merc - ill grab a picture today - Its one of those ollllllllld mercs

:happy2: cheers, she's in the garage now - I went for a very quick and fast blast and brought it up to temperature and double checked everything handed the keys over had a chat about his merc and left.

I asked him should I get my old cat from home before the emissions and his words were "no no, there shouldnt be a problem *smiled*" so im hoping that roughly translates as "no worries mate, ill make sure she passes by holding a rag in front of the exhaust"
