Questions for wheel gurus

I'm hoping for a bit of help with a couple of questions on wheels.

The first question: is an offset of ET35 cosidered to be too aggressive?

The reason I ask is that I fancy a set of Ronal R41s in 18" with 8J width which (I think) have this offset.



The second question: Are replicas to be discouraged?

The reason I ask this is that I like the RS6 wheels as a Plan B but may only be able to afford reps

Think offset is too low mate
Think you need et45 above
I've had 8-19 BBS CHs et50 and they sit perfect in my Gti
But sold that and bought an R32 and just bought some 19'' CH reps,just can't afford tyres at the mo,so might have to sell them on

Personally if you are still wanting to used the corner, hard cornering etc, then I wouldn't go any lower than ET45 18"x8.0" on front with 225 tyres, could drop a little if using a 215 tyre maybe, or if you want arch work... on the back i wouldn't go lower than E38 18"x8.0"

Thanks chaps.

I would be using standard tyres and don't fancy modding arches and rubbing will not be welcome even in hsrd cornering.

The wheels mentioned or available in the standard 7.5J but I guess that only takes ET35 to ET40??

Bentley rims are 9J ET41 and sit about flush.

on a 9J ET41 rim the face sits in exactly the same position as a 8.5J ET35, or an 8J ET29

in other words you'll have about 6mm of "tuck" with those spec wheels, which should be ok really...

if you really wanted you could grind a few mm off the hub to get the offset even higher if you wanted

It kinda conflicts with what E30Dom mentioned but it sounds like you have tried this without rubbing issues. I have about 20mm lowering on Eibach springs. I don't think I would risk an ET of 29 on 8J rims, even in my ignorance of these things, that must be the absolute limit!

Thanks Robin, I am sure that there are good and bad reps but I don't think I'll risk it.  In all my research, I noticed that your OZ 'Leggies' are not a cheap option!  :surprised:

when i say higher offset, i literally mean higher i.e. if you grind off 3mm your ET will go from 35 to 38

i've got some wheels that i want to fit that are 8.5J ET32, but i am like Dom in that i HATE poke and show pony wheel offsets. my current wheels are 8J ET44 and i think they sit just about perfect

tbh in terms of rubbing issues i'm not best placed to comment. i drive an 8P, not a Mk5 and i think someone mentioned our track is 6mm wider so the rules are slightly different? i'm not sure how true that it, but i wouldn't take what i say as gospel when it comes to the Mk5 because i've never owned one lol

Yeah, I'm not into making a fashion statement myself but liked the simple 5-spoke design above. I am not a Mk5 owner either - I have an Octavia and am only doing this because the new Octavia that I have ordered has ET51 wheels but the spoke design means they won't fit over the NQS BBK that I am transferring over  :wink:
