CAN bus migraine - Middlesbrough area
« on: April 13, 2012, 10:55:45 am »
Hello,

Had a mare with the VW garage - clueless.

I've a late 2005 golf gti and my new av receiver needs a CAN bus upgrade.

1) How do I identify my current can bus model?

2) What model (including full serial number) do I need for an upgrade (so VW can find me one)

3) Can I potentially buy one online (when I know which one I need) and take it to an electrics specialist to fit it?

I'm based in Middlesbrough.

Thanks :)

i'm pretty sure theres someone near you who can actually do it for you so VW don't charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege

ideally you need a vagcom/vcds scan so you can identify the can gateway model you have, but chances are because its a 2005 you'll need an updated one anyway. eddie-nl on here sells them and i'm sure he'll be along shortly to advise. i think he fits them too

what AV receiver you fitting?

As above, your car being a 2005 will more than likely need a new gateway.

There's a few of us around Durham/Tees with VCDS that could scan your car to confirm, but I think it's a formality.

Unfortunately I'm away this weekend for some time, so maybe one of the other guys could assist - if you edit the title to show Middlesbrough/North East it might catch their attention quicker.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
