Whose running R888's
« on: April 14, 2012, 11:37:08 am »
Hey, thinking of getting these, as the car's getting a significant power increase which will be useless without good grip :)

some questions:

-How many miles are you getting out of the front of a FWD car, and what sort of driving.
-Do they need to be worn in much?
-Do they need much warming up for grip, ie how will they perform on a the drag strip with no warming up.
-Any other thoughts for a FWD, maybe compared to other good tyres like the F1 Assymetric's.

PS; I am looking at just running these on the front, ive got F1 Assymetric 1's on the rear.

Cheers,
Dan

Sticky tyres on the front with not so sticky tyres on the rear is not a good idea. That will provoke oversteer which could end up being costly.

Hi rich, I understand that theory.
On the other side of the coin, Eagle F1's would be better on the rear when it comes to wet weather?

I have 888 Front R1R rear Dan.  Not had time to put them to the test but was very impressed by the summer grip of 888s all round two summers ago.

Im hoping to use the car now for fun / track events mostly as the missus has the roller skate for daily duties.  So trying not to worry about the low wear rate too much.

Will take not of the date / mileage (They were fitted a couple of days ago)

Hi Mike, that's s combination I had thought about.

The load rating of the R1R's at 225/40/18 re too low at 88 for the Leon, but on the rear it might not be an issue? What size are your rears?

225 / 40 , that info puts a spanner in my plan to run R1R all round then.

They look suspiciously like Parada Spec 2s and are almost certainly as sh*t, if not worse (if that's possible).

Federal RSR 595 for well mannered sticky fun  :happy2:

BTW, do you just want something stupidly sticky for 1/4 miles? Get some used slicks of touringcarspares, should be about £30 each. Damn good wheelspin and they'll be good to go.

Set off for a drive and the 888s have transformed the car  :driver:

However after light showers the work was greasy and I had to be on my toes on the roundabouts  :scared: :driver:

Those Federals have far more wet grip than try should.   Surprised the hell out  of me.

Mike why wouldn't your brakes  fit under 17" alloys?   I'm pretty sure top cat had 360mm RS6 disks under his 17" TDs on his old golf
