2011 Audi A4 Enhancement Detail
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:55:07 pm »
Evening folks.

This beauty of a car belongs to a friend who kindly allowed me to build up my skills some more on his car  :surprised: He's a good friend

The process used was as follows:

Rinsed with Pressure Washer
AF Citrus Power to remove/loosen traffic film & bugs etc
PW Rinse
Wheels cleaned with Bilberry wheel cleaner, Daytona Speedmaster & Small Brushes
Snowfoamed with CG No Touch (which i don't personally rate very well)
Door shuts, fuel cap, logos and intricate places all agitated with small detailing brush and Poor Boys APC
Engine bay cleaned with APC & dressed with 303 Aerospace Protectant
PW Rinse
Snowfoamed
Immediately washed using 2BM, AF Lather and Sheepskin Shop Lambswool mitt for all major panels, Megs Microfibre wash mitt for lower panels and bumpers
Rinsed
Tardis applied on any tar (of which there was hardly any)
Clayed using Washshop Clay & FK425 as Lube. Also used Megs Smooth surface kit
Rinsed
Dried using ultra plush drying towel
Taped up
Polished using Menzerna Polishes - Here i had problems which i will get to in a minute
Exhausts cleaned with Autosol
Sealed with 1 Coat of GTechniq C2
Glazed with 2 Coats of GTechniq C1.5
Glass sealed with Nanolex Ultra
Tyres dressed with Megs Hotrims which my mate brought with him.

Due to weather and time i didn't take many pics of the car.

As for the polishing problems. I first tried a Yellow 3M pad with Menz PO85RD 3.02 however the swirls seemed to stay . So i switched to an Orange compounding pad and this did very little. So i changed to Menz S500 and that still did very little. At this point, due to my inexperience, i decided i wouldn't go any harsher as i didn't want to ruin my mates car. So if anyone has any tips for polishing Audi Diamonds i am all ears  . I was tempted to switch to the 3M Perfect it system as i have all 3 Polishes and Pad combo's but I never had the time to spend on the car. So i spoke to my mate and showed him what level of correction i was able to achieve and he was happy as he couldn't see what i could see  :signLOL: Maybe i'm too anal

Anyway this is how the car turned up

Not great pics but you can make out the traffic film etc on it.

So the car was then cleaned - Requisit Snowfoam pics

Then all taped up and the polishing began - No comments about the bald patch please as it is actually a 3rd eye

The Results

Close up of Shine from C2 & C1.5 Combo

My mate was happy as he said it looked better than the day he picked it up from the showroom. So i was fairly happy.

Comments good/bad welcome. Any advice about Audi Paints is welcome too as i am happy to admit i am no expert and this is only the 3rd car i have machine polished.

Looks like a great result Carl!  :congrats:

I remember when A4's used to be quite small cars!!  :surprised:

PS, if you want to stick to a DA the Megs MF system will remove 90% of the swirls/marks you speak of!

Nice work Carl. You arent glazing after you are sealing are you? Counter productive, you'll be removing the sealant with the glaze. Looks great though.

The GTechniq C2 and C1.5 are designed to work together. For best results you use C1 and then C1.5 however i didnt want to risk that on this car due to the way it's applied and the weather we had which is why i used C2. You can also glaze over a sealant if you use one that doesn't contain any cleaners for example Wet Glaze 2.0.
