Preparation is key! Bad prep with the best waxes applied will still look crap.

If you've never clayed before then get some the results will amaze you! You dont hav eto go made with products, you could just stick with -

Wash wheels arches etc..
Rinse car - to remove surface grits and dirt
Wash Car (wash mitts, with two buckets, wash & rinse - not sponges)
Rinse car
Clay car - plenty of lube to be used 
Rinse or wash car again.
Dry - drying towel - Not shammy or Blade 
Use AG super resin
Then good wax, colli 476

Thank you for all the hints and tips of what to use and how to do it, im still alittle unsure with the clay, but like all the fun things us men do you need plenty of lube

Im gonna set aside a day, prob this weekend coming and have a go, one thing i have seen, whilst reading what products do, even after washing mine it always has a rough feel to the paint, which from what ive read the clay will help to sort, i will post up my results

As others have said, very easy to get sucked into. It's easy to spend £££. I would recommend gettin the car detailed professionally and then just do basic maintenance washes. You can then read up and learn about detailing.

Have a read of micsta's threads at the top of this section.

Clay will help but I'd normally recommend using a tar remover first. Otherwise when you clay, you'll push the tar around further. AG SRP is very good as a hand polish and several coats will ensure a great finish. I love collinite 476s. Very underrated IMO.

What are you gonna use for the wheels? The tyres? The glass? The rubber? The plastics? The interior. You can see how it starts to mount up!

I'd say get a clay bar and would +1 for the Bilt Hamber soft bar - just use your hose to lubricate it. Amazing the amount of c*ap you'll get off your car.

Then, before you get addicted like the rest of us, have a look at Ben's site - Rubbish Boys. You can pick up a Dodo Juice Panel Pot for around a fiver - i use DJ and find it excellent. The Panel Pots are cheap but let you try adding a wax over your Autoglym SRP. They'll do a bout 10 cars if you go thinly.

Maybe Purple Haze for your black or Hard Candy is their easiest wax to use. On with a foam applicator in 15 mins, buff off in 20mins or so.  Great shine and decent protection too.

I'd definitely recommend using a clay bar, makes a big difference. I personally prefer using the Bilt Hamber clay to the Maguiars clay, I found it easier to work with and you get more for your money. Also, it works fine with just water alone, no need to splash out on clay lube.

Right ive got a rough idea of what im gonna do, take it Ebay is as good a place as any to get products from?

Ive seen the Bilt hamber clay on ebay one company is selling that with some colinite for £23 is that good???
