Looking for some advice/help.

My 04 Mk5 1.4S golf rattles alot when I am pulling away. It is often very hard to get it into 5th gear or reverse, usually requiring a few attempts. Yesterday on the bypass it popped out of fifth gear & into neutral twice.
When the clutch peddle is released there is often a little play at the top of the clutch peddle...like it hasn't came completely out.
It has been like this for a while but is now making a crunching / grinding noise at idle and occasionally when driving.
Does my car have a Dual mass flywheel? A friend (mechanic) said it could be the release bearing has collapsed...
How much £££ am I looking at for clutch kit fitted?
MOT & Service due next month, 52000miles on the clock.
Timing belt&Water pump are due to be changed aswell, if I am getting clutch done would i be best to get it all done at once?

Thanks in advance for the advice.
Greg

Does sound like a clutch problem - having the same issues myself, Mine is due in in just over a week.

Not sure on your clutch, but average 2.0 GT TDi prices are:

£550 to £700 < Depends on the quality of the clutch/garage. £650 would get you a LUX clutch, dual mass and release bearing fitted.

These are the prices round here anyway

I phoned VW asked if my car had a DMF, It doesnt. Asked how much a clutch would cost to replace - £214 parts.....£500 Labour.
The noise comes and goes and is not as bad as it was, the rattle is sometimes worse than others but im not gonna rush into getting it done at the moment, i def wont be going to VW to spend £714. local garage has said £300 for it all.
