New old VW camper van, whats that about?

I was behind a very good condition VW camper van this morning, looked like on from the 70's.  I happened to glance the number plate and it was on a 60 reg, I double checked and checked again and it was 100% the new style reg, something like LX60 FOP.  if it was a kit car it would have been a Q plate so is a company making these new and putting VW badges on them or are they still being made in Mexico like the old beetle or the mk1 golf in South Africa?

Possibly only recently registered? Could have been kept somewhere till now?

does happen every now and again - there was a DB5 in Top Gear mag a few years ago on a 57 reg. the owner was so rich he bought it and forgot about it. was having a look in his garage for what car he wanted to take to lunch and decided on that one. registered it and voila!

They obviously don't use a modern engine as I had to over take him up a steep hill

yes can still buy them new. They are watercooled now though. Have got horrible plastic radiator grills on the front  :sick:
