Shuddering on acceleration!
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:22:01 pm »
Just driving home and engine management light came on flashing. Car started shuddering when accelerating. Anyone got any ideas before I take it to be plugged in?

My mk4 GTI did exactly the same thing once. One of your coil packs has given up the ghost.

Yes I remember mine shaking like crazy. Try not to drive it far if you can, it won't do your catalytic converter any good with unburnt fuel going through it

The very same thing happend to me the other month, and it turned out to be a failed coil.
VW replaced it, 2 minute job.

ask your mechanic  :scared:

I'm hoping there was a misunderstanding somewhere, otherwise your mechanic BS'd you big time. You can't go replacing cylinders, they're an integral part of the engine block. You would pretty need an entire engine if you warped a cylinder. Could they have meant valve maybe?

Local vw is only half a mile down the road anyway. Could this be covered under the coil pack recall I have read about? Mines is a 05 plate.

What I would do is ring your local dealer and ask them if there is any recalls for your car, they will ask you for your reg which they then check on the computer to see if there's any work outstanding. I had mine done, 55 plate, the best feeling ever knowing you've had something for free from a dealer!

It could just be a dodgy spark plug.  :happy2:

If it shows on fault reader then it'll be coilpack, if it doesn't then it spark plug...
