Blueflame Performance TBE
« on: April 21, 2012, 06:12:41 pm »
WHY

Continuing on from my misfire problems culminating in installing NGKs, I continued to suffer with being down on power. R-Tech confirmed that my car was only making 120bhp, and making dangerous amounts of timing pull when flat out. There wasn't enough air coming in either, although there were no signs of a turbo failure.

Likely diagnosis - blocked cat

SOURCING

Was umming and erring over what to fit. Wanted to go BCS, but Blueflame recently had a cracking offer on TBEs for £750 fitted. With cost being a concern as I'm saving up to move to London in September I settled on Blueflame and everything was booked.

FITTING

Price above included fitting costs. As the exhaust is made on the car, and isn't an off the shelf product mine was slightly customised to what I wanted to achieve. It has a 3" downpipe with 100cell sports cat, and is 3" all the way to the centre silencer, after which it narrows down to reduce the amount of noise. In place of the rear suitcase there is another small silencer.

OTHER VERSIONS

Milltek
Pipewerx
BCS
Jetex
APR

etc. etc. etc.

PLUS POINTS

1. Cost - £750 fitted for a TBE with a sports cat is a fantastic price

2. My power is back!!!

3. Increase in fuel economy

4. Even without the rear suitcase the exhaust is very civilised when cruising, and not all that intrusive even when you're pressing on

5. No CEL

MINUS POINTS

The tips are cartoonishly big which takes away from the stealth look I was going for. It's a taste thing, and no doubt some will really like it:

SUMMARY

Simply fantastic system. Comes with a lifetime warranty on everything but the cat too, so no worries about failures. I'm really thrilled. Was grinning all the way home.

100% recommended.

excellent offer--the tips of the exhaust look like the same as the milly rear ones at 80mm

Nice one! I've got the Blueflame TBE with 200 cell sports cat on my S3 and can't fault it and as you say, at that price with lifetime warranty you really can't go wrong  :happy2:

Have you had any problems with downpipe being too close to the heatshield and causing noise?

No mate. My exhaust was built on the car and is nowhere near the heat shield

I'll get a photo for you tonight if it's not too rainy

That's fine, spoke to Blueflame and they redesigned the downpipe to be more central to the tunnel.  :happy2:
