I've read up on it and it's an easy job as long as the extension is wired with cable that has an extra pair in it. I haven't checked, but the most commonly used telecom cable has 3 or 4 pairs in it, so I'm keeping everything crossed! There's not a single socket in the house without a piece of furniture in front of it, which is why I'm leaving it to chance...

Luckily i connected all the phone sockets up correctly (4 wires) otherwise that would have been a lot of carpet and laminate to rip up.

I thought you needed 2 pairs... 2 for phone and 2 for Infinity?  :stupid:

It's 2 wires for both actually. The orange/white ones date back to the old pulse dialling system and are no longer used. They can actually cause a little interference and some knowledgable folk recommend disconnecting them altogether.

But you are talking about internal wiring. You only get 2 from the street.

The filter in the box taps off ADSL signal and gives it to the Huawei box.

My Infinity runs off an extension socket upstairs.

2 wires into the house

4 wires into every extension socket

Infinity socket (in 2nd bedroom) uses 2 of the 4 wires and leaves 2 wires for the normal telephone socket.

Thats what the chap told me... unless i misunderstood.

My understanding of it is 2 from the street into Master socket. You then get filters applied which leaves you 2 for the phone and the 2 for the data. Assuming you then extend all 4 wires then no problem.

In the good old days though you needed to extend an extra wire from the Master to allow your extensions to ring.

Guess that's changed these days.
