Dodgy stalk?
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:41:33 am »
Last night i noticed my wiper stalk was making the car do funny things,

Firstly if i held it down to wipe the front windows with spray it would turn the back wiper on and would only resolve if i held the stalk down towards and pulled it harder than normal, apart from running the back wiper without wash (not always - sometimes it will just do the front)

It wouldn't switch the autowiper on and only did when I moved the stalk all the way to the top then the bottom and then put it to auto

Sometimes when starting the car my rear wiper turns on without me touching anything which is really annoying

the rear wipe with wash words fine

tried turning the car on and off but same problems happening all night

Ill scan today but will it show any faults with the stalk and what does it sound like to you? anyone got any experience??

Any help appreciated!!

Never tried it myself but you can probably do 'output tests' in VCDS so you could see if the physical action marries up with the signal being received.

I have read about people cleaning the stalk contacts.

Personally, if it is problematic I would replace the stalk as they don't last forever.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
