Should I sell GTI to buy R32?
« on: April 24, 2012, 10:28:01 pm »
I have owned a total of 4 golfs now, mk2 16v, mk3 VR6, mk5 GT TDI, and my current Mk5 gti.

I also have an impreza as a Weekend toy so car would stay standardish

I loved the sound of my VR6 and the GTI is a bit dull noise wise.

Is it worth buying an R32 mk5 for the noise?
FWD also does my head in as the car under steers and spins the wheels all the time
Just bought a set of BBS 19s so will have to stick with a golf given the price of them

Sell the Jap c**p, buy R32 or ED30 and turn GTI into track weapon (your new "weekend toy"). Which BBS wheels have you got BTW (any pics), you could always sell them to another forum member

To be fair I did do a search before asking but the search function is rather poop  :P

Jap crap...... Take it nobody who says that has owned or even driven  a 500bhp caged impreza on track?
It would run rings round any fwd German barge no matter how much money one spent.

I have both leave out the whole jap crap. I have a mk5 gti as a daily because it is good as a daily car.
I have a caged impreza as a track car because it's good as a track car END OF :booty:

Corrected bloody auto correct on this stupid iPad  :ashamed:

I will reword it then, should I change my daily hack from a GTI to an R32?

I know how you boys feel with people asking the same questions all the time.
It's like people "what dump valve is best for my impreza?" if I have heard that once I have heard it a million times  :sad1:

Personally I wouldn't swap a Gti to a R32, but that's a choice more reflective on 6 pots drinking more than a 4 pot.
In terms of noise a 3.2 V6 will clearly sound much better.

The Impreza sounds like a nice bit of kit. Bet that plays a good tune.

Fairly obviously the choice probably comes down to running costs and the price to swap I'd say. That said it's a nice dilemma..

Enjoy whatever route you decide.

Not too many people on here would recommend selling a Mk5 GTi for a R32 (The clue is in the name of the Forum).

There have been a lot of discussions on this recently but the general response seems to be that if you want the noise that badly, get the R32, but if you want something with reasonable economy, is infinately more tunable and more fun to drive, stick with the GTi or get an Ed30.

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

Really need 500 donkeys though to get away quick style when someone spots you driving one. Soooorry to dis but a 200-300 bhp 'german barge' may not be as quick buuuut you can drive one with your head held high and not be frowned on by people thinking your an obnoxious boy racer or a drug dealer. Not to mention the 80s styling and iffy build quality

Quality over quantity. In my opinion... Tell 'er in doors this all the time.

Back to the question though. Other than exhaust note n wet traction the GTI trounces the R32 in everyway. And like you said youve got a scoob which is no doubt noisey so why waste your hard earned rupees on something that is less tuneable, not as fun to drive a hell of alot more expensive to buy, run and tax n cos of its bad rep will prob have to fork again for a tracker when some tit decides hes gona take it for a spin while your pushing Zzzzz's out.

My 50p's worth.

The search function works perfectly well, you just have to think about how people might have titled a thread etc.  don't give up after one search and take the easy way out and do a new topic.  There have been what feels like a gazillion threads on "Should i buy an R32" recently  normally followed by the same idiot  individual posting about how much they spend on fuel.

In fact F**k it i'll go an buy an R32 as well see you over on R32OC  :happy2:

the r32 is better than the gti its as simple as that. however when you factor in runing costs and the fact it is not as tunable it loses some of its appeal.

the fact is you already have a track toy so want something as a daily... in std form the R32 is the quickest and most capable of the bunch. Factor in the little extras such a 'proper' sounding engine, xenons as std, 18" wheels std, blue glass, all-weather-capability and you have one of the best dailys out there. The gti is a compromise as far as I am concerned... but as stated above, evenyone on here presents a well balanced argument  :signLOL:
