Arch Rolling

Has anyone had this done? If so who did you use?

Im looking to have my front arches rolled so i can sit the car a little lower, however the only company im aware of that does it is Arch Enemy and they cant do it till May 24th, Im going to a show on the 20th and would like it done before then, Im based in Berkshire, has anyone got any recomendations?

What is this arch-rolling I keep hearing about? Does it look any different to normal arches?  :confused:

^ A special machine is used to gently sweep around the edges of the wheel arch to push out the wing arch bodywork, hence in the hope of improving tyre clearance to cure rubbing.

The lip on the under side of the arch is basicly squashed up flat to the wing so as when you put your hand up there it would feel like the lip had been removed. Can be risky if not done correctly as it could crack the paint or dent the wing. From a visual look at the car you wouldn't notice. Its quite an old trait. Best left to the pro's imo. I have seen people use a piece of scaffold tubing between arch and wheel, though not advised. Hope you get the idea. :happy2:

Alex at AKS tuning, wasnt expensive & helped get a little extra clearance.  The mounting point of the bumper might be altered in the future to create a touch more clearance

As gazon says, it's wise to leave doing this to the professionals. My VW dealer's affiliated bodyshop (a highly accredited accident repair centre) has one of these tools. As the photo shows, it's done by hand and hence the skill is needed.

i do metal fabrication and sheet metal work as a job so i am tempted to give it ago myself but dont fancy trying it without the proper tool, they seem more expensive to buy than to have it done so i may aswell pay someone to do it.

Does anyone know someone close to berkshire that does it?

My only concern is one of my arches has slight rust spots under the paint

....Firstly, everyone advises a professional (someone with experience0 to do it. That's because they've done it before and know how it feels and behaves and also which section of the arch will solve the rubbing problem.

If you've got rust you can claim its repair/replacement under VW's warranty. Mine is being done and 100% paid for at the moment.

It's best to submit your claim BEFORE you start modifying wheel arches! Also probably more chance of success if your claim is submitted by a VW dealer.

There's a whole thread on the subject if you do a Search on "rust warranty".
