A Warm Welcome to the forum, ibrardad! Ok, Syd is easier to write!

If you have the DSG version, drive in D-mode and the gears will be selected for maximum economy. I have cruise control but never use it (I hate stuff like that) and I assume it might help mpg.

....That's because you are a cruiser. I've spotted you around the red light district of Mayfair.

We each have our own preferences. Nothing wrong with CC but it's just that I don't like not being in complete control of all my driving decisions. I only use D-mode in town or traffic queue crawl.

C'mon. Are there no more Diesel willy-wavers stating how we can get 50 or 60+ mpg. Disappointing.   As said above, this has been done to death in numerous other threads. Search Button is there for a good reason. Altho sometimes Google advanced search is better.  :happy2:

Bear in mind that the OP ibrardad/Syd is a newbie, folks.

Anyway, I thought that diseasal willy's were too small to wave

Joking apart, the Golf Mk5 TDI with DSG I have driven is a very good car and not to be sniffed at. I expect that the GT is even better but haven't driven one - I've had a few challenging me to 'race' though but I avoid getting involved. I started to increase my speed away from a GT once and then noticed small blue light units in its grill so I stopped that and just held around 70 (dual carriageway). He came past and I then noticed it was a Fire Service car but not red and no big markings or roof light unit.

Sorry, welcome newbie. I'm sure it says somewhere in the rules/intro/somewhere else to use the search button to search your rtopic before starting a new thread. At least I think they say that, haven't actually read the rules...   :surprised:

Ah, Robin, if GTI owners got the mpg that GT TDI owners do then there would be nothing but willy-waving on here.  :signLOL:

That would be pretty sly if it was a police car (also are they allowed to aggrevate you into a race?). Not experienced a TDI DSG but I'm sure they'd be a great cruising vehicle. Tuned properly they ould probably put out some serious torque/acceleration figures. Economy-wise though, manual is better (and CC Robin  )

In all sensible-ness, I have a 2.0 GTTDi, it was the 140 bhp model now mapped to 180+. I do local driving, stop-start to work during the week and a mix 50/50 of motorway and rural roads at the weekend. Using regular Shell Diesel I always see over 500 miles to a tank (think they're 55 litre capacity). My normal range is about 550 miles, record is possibly just shy of 600 miles/tank. My mpg is around 48 overall. Total motoway journey can see me 55mpg or a wee trip dowm to the shop can see me at 40mpg.

HTH  :happy2:

Small diesel Willy's are compensated by big torquey bollocks. Lol
