GOLF GT advice and compare?
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:18:03 pm »
hello everyone

just a quick question.

apart from the front face lift is there any difference in a 2007 - 2008 GOLF GT 2.0 140 compared to a 2004 golf GT 2.0 145? my friend has a remapped GT 2007 in black and i love it. it just seems so much better than my own that i want one. i only own a laser blue 1.4s 74 bhp

here are car details and price. should i go for it? im unsure about how the newer GT compare to the older ones

I didn't know they did a 145bhp, mine was a 140 and the face lift one comes in a 170.

That does seem a bit cheap, I paid £6500 for mine as a standard car just over 18 months ago.

There is no 145 bhp.  :stupid: The earlier GT TDi's have the PD (Pump-Duse) Engine while the newer car's has a CR (Common-Rail) engine. I think the facelifted cars will have less wear and tear on them (obv) and newer technology (CANBUS, Radio's, etc).

yeah thats what im thinking? i only thought they came in 140 or 170.

everywhere i have looked there around 6500

it does seem really cheap, if its all legit its a bargain dont you think?

if its all fine be a nice little project as it has low milage on it for its age.

ive done almost 90k in mine.

another question with the diesels, when buying whats the limit of milage you would accept? how far can they go?

Earlier models suffer from the porous cylinder heads which the 04 could potentially have.. Expensive fix! Im sure all the MK5's were with PD engines which were phased out when the MK6 came out. Could be wrong though.

The older GT will have electronic climate as after the facelift i think this became an optional extra? (i haven't seen many post 2006-7 GT's with it)

In my opinion i'd never get a car with 2.0TDI lump in again! So many common problems with them which i've experienced in a 2.0 TDI passat when i used to use my dads and now in the Golf i own! Some people will say it's hit and miss but i think they're terribly unreliable engines!

The price also seems way too cheap for a car with that milage, Trade In values are higher than that asking price!

you dont think the GT have a good enough engine or is there a few versions of the GT?

i want to upgrade to a better golf and the more i look in to it the more confused i get.

I originally wanted a GTI then i looked more in to it and thought a GT would be much better becuase its a diesel and would be much cheaper to run?

isnt the GT same as a GTI but diesel?

No, the GT is a lot more basic, hence why I have spent over £3000 on mine bringing it up to GTi spec.  Have a look at my build thread to see what a normal GT 140 bhp looks like.

yeah to be honest my mates was a stock one just had nice wheels on it hes just had it remapped and the same seats put in as yours.

your car is lovely mate, the stance on it is really nice. how much did the front bumper cost to get done and sprayed?
