Changing from midline to highline (Advice required)
« on: April 26, 2012, 10:51:54 pm »
Hi,

Managed to collect a few highline parts for my gt 140 so was looking into the procedure for fitting them.

I have collected so far, MFSW,  Highline clocks (973B) and Highline steering controller. All from 07 my car same as mine.

Am I correct in thinking I need a small airbag loom and does anyone have a part number to hand?

I do have access to VCDS so can code the controller and wheel but im confused as what to do with the cluster.

From what I have read I need the 7 digit SKC from my current cluster, Can I get this from using VCDS? If not how?
I assume I also need the same from the new (used) cluster. I understand this one is not possible to get using VCDS, what's the best way to do this?
I would then need to match the mileage, what do I need to do this?

I did have a read through a thread on here which went into it but I believe it is for the older clocks 971 type

Many thanks

Hi mate to code the SKC to your new cluster you will need to talk to Kalu on here, he can do the 973 and 974 clusters aswell as the mileage correction, the airbag loom you need is part number 1K0 971 584C and will cost you about £25 from TPS

you need vag commander kit to do the clocks i believe its only 74 model clocks that can only be done from dealer
skc can only be obtained from vag comander as is changing the mileage

Vag commander wont do 973s ive tried and its not having it, dealers will only program BRAND NEW clusters they wont do old ones, you will need to PM kalu

Ive retrofitted loads of the older 972 and older but cant do 973 or 974, cant even correct the mileage on them

I'm doing mine this weekend. Got a set of 971 clusters as I originally bought a 974 too. But pm Kalu on the forum. He can advise you on what's best with 974 clusters. I think they have to be taken apart to retrieve skc number

i have done 973s with my Vag commander, just no luck with 974

You were probably lucky to do your 973
as most 973 won't work with the clone VAG-commander as they are past the mid 2006 change

Thanks for the help so far guys. Cheers for the part no Phil  :happy2:

I managed to get an exact match for the clocks, were 963B and found 973B's

Does VAG commander not normally work on 973's?

Cheers
