Sup Guys!!

first of all my name is Josh but all my mates call me Jay, 22 years old and i currently drive a tractor (mk5 1.9 tdi) which is my second car. my first car was a mk5 ford fiesta Zetec-s which i had from being 17 till about 20 and after an old man drove into the side of me and wrote it off i got the golf. so i havent really had a car with...power shall we say.

now i love my golf, and ever since the mk5 GTI was out i instantly fell in love with it! (i was in high school at this point) i have always loved the VW golfs and used to draw mk1 golf gti's when i was young. (always been into cars)

i am now getting the stage where my insurance is going to be cheap enuf for me to bare paying for me to get a decent spec car!

i had a look at the competators - civic type r, megane sport, focus ST and audi S3.

it came pretty close on what i wanted to chase between the GTI + S3.

i have now come to my decision that is has to be a Golf GTI.

my problem now is do i go for a standard GTI with some extras and spend some money doing some heavy modding or do i wait and get an edition 30?

my only issue is that im going to want some of the extra's included in the car (heated leather, xenons, highline console are the three main ones i want)

my question is, if i get the GTI and do mods, am i going to regret not getting the eddy 30? and is the std GTI going to bring as big of a grin to my face and have as much fun in the std gti over the ed30?

been having a look round the site and had a good   at most cars and peoples projects!

Cheers,

Jay :)

Hi Jay/Josh welcome along   :happy2:

Deciding factors between them are really how far you plan on modding it and what you prefer looks wise. GTI interior is a nice place to be, ED30 interior also nice (Different with half leather), colour coded bumpers on ED30, plain on GTI (it has been said that following a GTI you could almost be following a 1.6s as they look almost the same from behind  ). Performance wise a Stage 1 tuned GTI is likely to give you about 240bhp and stage 1 Ed30 is 290-300bhp.

GTI's lots of them about and lots with options on them so should be easier to get your Highline and Xenons, with ED30 you have the exclusivity factor as well as the extra 30hp with only 2300 in UK (probably more like 2200 with some written off/stolen etc), also depends on what colour you want as anything other than red/grey/white or black means your only option is the GTI.

I think ED30's will depreciate slower than std GTI, although ED30's have come down in value by around £2k since last year (I think this is more a market adjustment tho personally as I think they were overpriced previously!)

I have an Ed30 myself (Candy White) so am slightly biased, but for the matter of £1500 more than a GTI I would go for one as it gives you more opportunity to Mod it later for higher power, some ED30's on here are running 370-380bhp, although I personally am aiming for around 330bhp with mine  :happy2:.

Its a choice you need to make based on what you need/want and what you can find available for sale.

GLWTS  :happy2:

Thanks for your response mate!

i have been looking @ GTI's for a month or so, checking piston heads + auto trader for cars which crop up, just so i can get a feel of what prices for what spec im going to be looking at.

TBH i was already swinging towards the ED30 as i love the half leather seats in the eddy and like the thought of having the ko4 turbo already on there for future tuning

i would like either a red, D.black or grey one so thankfully the eddy's support them colours. (both the cars iv owned have been silver, not a big fan personally, its just what was avaliable at the time!)

i would have considered getting one sooner but i have three points on my license which come off for insurance purposes after June so that should really make a difference to my insurance quote!

i beleive the std GTI + eddy are the same insurance group?

is there anything that i should be looking out for in particular with the eddy's when i go to view some? common faults/common wear+tear in un-expected places?

cheers for the info tho mate!  :happy2:

Not sure about Insurance group tbh, being 39 myself I dont even look at stuff like that  :sad1:

Regards wear and tear, I dont think they are any different to the GTI in that respect, all I would say if if its DSG make sure its been serviced as per VW recommendations and that the car has FSH.

The only things that cost more on the ED30 would be things like the front and rear lower bumpers (colour coded) and fronts do suffer with stone chips, altho if you buy yourself a sheet of clear vinyl you can cover it and give it some extra protection.
Also the BBS CH Pescaras can be easily kerbed altho these days tyou can get them fixed for £40 a wheel so no great worry, would imagine that 18" tyres are more expensive than 17" tyres too  :happy2:, otherise underneath all that the car is essentially the same (barring the engine which has quite a few differences).

Welcome Jay,

I live in Whittle le Woods and have a red Edition 30 so you'll probably see me buzzing about. Theres another fella on my estate with a black ED30 as well.

Just go for an ED30, no disrespect to normal GTI's but its just so much more car. Besides we need another one in the area!
