If it's stock, 5W-30. If it's remapped, a few think 5W-40 may be better.

IIRC, when I had a chat with Alex from AKS about this, he said that mapped cars run hotter than spec. Consequently, the 5W-30 oil becomes thinner than it normally would in a stock car. This can lead to damage with bearings/cam follower/etc. Using 5W-40 means the oil is as viscous in a mapped engine as the 5W-30 would be in a stock engine.

Or at least that was my impression of it all.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

In simple terms 5w-40 will stay thicker at higher temps. this should keep oil temps down a little and help maintain oil pressure.

I have made the switch in my car from 5w30 to 5w40 due to oil temp issues on a trackday.

Did it help?

FWIW i never ran anything other than 5W30 in my last and current vRS. Between the 2 i've done over 90k miles and never had any issues. My last vRS was Stage 2/2+ and this one is Stage 1.

It's either/or then untill the time comes when I get her on the track... for which it'll have an oil change prior anyway...

Thanks,

Castrol Edge 5w30 (Which is VW 504.00 approved as required)  :happy2:

Personally I think changing your oil for a remapped car, especially at Stage 1 is a bit OTT.

Maybe a little, but I'm safe knowing that I'm using the best oil available (millers nanodrrive 5w40) and i won't run the risk of thinning oil.  :happy2:

Just a question Rich,

How do you know that Millers Nanodrive is the best available? Only asking it as i've never heard of it  (not that that means anything
