New Owner - Red Gti, Herts
« on: May 31, 2012, 10:34:30 am »
Hi all,

Had our Mk5 Gti for about a month now, so thought I'd sign up here.  :happy2:

The car is Tornado Red, 54 plate GTi with about 80k. Heated leathers, dual climate, 5 doors (yay, I hate big heavy doors you get on 3-door cars lol).

The mrs has had a Mk5 Gti before; I've had a Mk4, loads of Mk3's and Mk3 VR6s, Mk2 Gti, Clio 197, S2000, Mx5, Audi A8(!) etc etc - but we are going to stick to the Mk5 for a while now, it meets our needs and it's already cost us £1k to keep on the road, and its still in the garage now (had a death rattle!)... and it still needs tyres and discs/pads!

Anyway, hope to see you around; if anyone could do me a massive favour could they PM mitchGTI on here and point him to this thread? I want to get in touch RE: his lovely A8 winters for sale on here!

Cheers - Jim

A Warm Welcome to the forum, Jim!

You've got loads of VeeDub ownership experience and so you already know that 80k is absolutely no problem (if it's been well maintained). My Tornado Red is an 05-plate with 100k miles.

I'll PM MitchGTI for ya! < Done with a link to this thread here.

The Mk5 and also some of the cars I've had over the last 3 years...

Don't really miss this, fun to drive hard, not so easy to live with

Straight thru exhaust + VR6 = scare passers-by, really miss this, popped & banged like mad

Cheeky & Fun, swapped it for a VR6, new owner wrote it off a week later but rebuilt it onto a new chassis

Swapped my Golf for an Audi A8

Golf Mk2, got so many looks in this

S2000, love it, will own another! Probably a later >2004 model though with TC & softer setup, me & the missus almost binned this a couple of times with cold tyres

MCS with JCW kit, cost me a bit to run this but it was fun, power delivery was actually really good in this, just buzzed along & passengers often asked what that weird noise was... supercharger

My first VR6, and my 3rd Mk3 I think, totally original & gave me the VR6 bug

Thanks RedRobin! Yeah surprised the Gti stung us with big bills at 80k, but we're keeping this for a while so at least we'll know it should behave for a while to come  :happy2:

Thanks for PM'ing Mitch too

^^^^
Look out for a meet, especially an evening country pub meal sat perving on girlies in jodhpurs and riding boots outside with a decent car park. Always good to meet folks in person and admire each other's rides and consequently spend even more money modding what we don't need to.

I love both the green and dark maroon colours of your VR6's  :notworthy:

Will do, already got plans for a few tweaks to the Gti, don't need any more encouragement there! For now I'll just be glad to get it back, I've been driving a budget-spec Pug 206 for the last week and have covered about 400 hellish miles in it (and without AC has been fun in the recent weather)

The Mk3's are Dragon Green & Indian Red (my fave) - there was plenty wrong with Mk3's, but they definitely got the colours right  :happy2:  Well apart from the interiors of the Colour Concepts maybe... Yellow leather anyone?

Welcome and nice choice of previous cars. I too had a clio 197 and supercharged mini cooper s, both great cars, handled amazingly but too small to live with the mini and had to drive the 197 hard to appreciate it which got tiring.
