225 40 18 vs 225 45 18

My mates offered a pair of part worn 225 45 18 tyres 4 mm left on em , I've got 225 40 18's on at the mo , will these tyres be ok to put on ???

I would;nt either as it will affect the rolling radius and your speedo will not read right.

....I'm not suggesting putting on different size tyres but just pointing out that the speedo isn't accurate anyway. Legally, car manufacturers are allowed to be +10% inaccurate. Just to give you an idea of OEM inaccuracy my clocks read 100mph when I'm doing 87mph according to both independent GPS systems I have run on my car. VW offered to change mine but would not guarantee better than the 10% so I said no thankyou and got a GPS which is also a camera alert etc.

Hey Robin, if its 10% already the last thing you need is it being 15-20% out  :happy2:

My speedo reading 100mph GPS reads 91mph

I have 225/45/18 tyres on mine and priced up some 225/45/18's, I was shocked at the price difference also, it was adding upto £200 extra on a set of four. Come replacement time it would have worked out a lot more expensive:

I.E
Continenetal Sport Contact 3 225/40/18 £126 delivered from tyres online
Continenetal Sport Contact 3: 225/45/18 £170 delivered from tyres online

Well the tyres on offer are the conti 3's as mentioned above £70 all in 4mm tread
