Steering a little too heavy
« on: April 30, 2012, 10:20:46 pm »
I came to open this post because I came to realise that my steering feels a bit heavy at car park parking, isn't the gti steering meant to be light at slow speeds and then gt heavier as it picks up speed?

i'd like heavier steering on mine, would get rid of the power steering motor if could!

have you checked air in the tires? It could be something simple as power steering is not prone to failure AFAIK

Well it sounds like you won't know what to do with vagcom, but if you find someone that does, tell them your steering is a bit heavy and that you would like it setting to a lighter setting.  :happy2:

From Rosstech…….

"Generation 1 and early Generation 2 still allowed switching between up to 16 different predefined Characteristic Curves, while later/updated Generation 2 and 3 do not and the Adaptation Channel is being inactive/unavailable."

What year is your Gti?

My steering felt heavier when I switched from the standard 17's (with winter tyres) to Monza 2's with summer tyres. Definitely affected by tyre pressure though, and road surface... I find the steering is perfectly weighted in my GTI compared to the 'arcade game' light setup in the courtesy Polo I had a few months ago  :happy2:

In vagcom there's an option to select how stiff or light you want the steering to be. But as mentioned above, depends which year your golf is.

I'd definitely start off  with checking the tyre pressures before fiddling around with settings. Check your fuel filler cap for the right pressures.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
