Hi Folks

Thought i'd post this in here as I cant seem to get any sense anywhere else google etc.

After searching high and low and looking at a number of different cars my missus eventually found a Cooper S that was tidy, full service history, seemed absolutely perfect, drove nice and didnt have any problems at all.

It however has now developed a problem :fighting: when it's warm it idles at 1500rpm and sits there for 10secs then rises to 2000rpm then drops straight back down to 1500rpm then repeats. It's as if someone is holding the accelerator slightly so it rises then takes their foot off so it drops back to 1500rpm.

The car was spot on during the test drive which was around 15miles which got it up to temperature it was also fine after the drive home which was around 170miles and again completely normal during that evening after she took it round to show her friends etc. It started doing it earlier on her way back from work.

I originally thought it had an air leak or vacuum pipe blocked/unblocked etc but it only does it when it's warm/driven for a few miles. Does anyone have any ideas or have any previous experience of this on the Mini? Before I take it to the dealer as there are no specialists around this area :sad1:

I can honestly say this has not been my week for cars :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

You need to get it plugged in could be a very simple fix

I'm no expert Ben but it does sound like the idle control valve? Used to happen all the time on older ecotec vauxhalls good clean out with WD and they're okay for a few miles

I'm sure someone who has actually owned one and had that problem might be able to let you know a fix for it.

Yup hopefully :happy2: I'm trying to find a local garage who would be able to carry out a diagnostic check. Can honestly say this is the first time i'm stepping out of the VAG world :scared:

Have thought of the throttle body/icv myself but thought if it was either of these it would happen all the time not just when it is warm, but I shall have a look tomorrow :happy2:

I'm absolutely fuming after what happened to my car last weekend and now this :sad1: :sad1: Car was 100% when we were viewing it and for around 150miles after.

Cheers Mat will give it a go :happy2: Just need to locate the icv first

I know mate I shall be making a few calls tomorrow during lunch to see what I can find out am entitled too. Problem is, he is in Stroud so its not as if I can just take the car back to him and say sort it :sad1: even though its becoming more and more tempting. Saying that im gonna stay calm for the mean time get the fault codes read to find out what it can be and go from there.

Fingers crossed its a simple fix

Thermostat?

Ask on Mini Torque. Forget Lohen, they are salesmen. For Cooper S repairs and tuning there is no other plan than 1320autos http://www.1320.co.uk/default.aspx
