Went out in a Turbo'd MX5 today
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:09:26 pm »
Gotta say bloody fast. Not sure what BHP he is running, but it's not running full PSI yet. He bought it for £800 with the turbo half hearted put on. So he took his body damaged no turbo'd MX5 and re built the engine.

Exhaust was rattling like mad when coming off the gas, but must admit I was impressed, going sideways around roundabouts near me, even in his rubbish tyres.

Sorry for rubbish videos but pretty hard when it's self boosting and accelerating from 50-100 in a few seconds.

Here is a pic of the engine.

What engine size was it? Most make 160-180hp on stock engine with bolt-on tirbo.

Not sure mate, I know naff all about these. But I was surprised how well it handler, like an effing go kart putting it sideways around the roundabout.

I don't know if this anything special compared to any other turbos MX5 just thought I'd share with enthusiasts. Can get some figures tomorrow of what it's running/will be running.

I'd never fit in to drive it, I'm too tall, but the shotgun seat was comfortable but LOW, for me at 6'6

The turbo sounds like a jet, spooling up and the dump is immense.

Powerwise it's around 170 at the moment running at 4.5psi, next week he's upgrading to a powersquirt ECU, Evo injectors and running PSI of 7-10. From a friends vehicle he says that'll achieve around 250bhp!
