Moving maps
« on: May 03, 2012, 10:27:34 am »
Hi Folks, has anyone made the transition (for whatever reason) from a generic map like Bluefin to a custom map like R-Tech, Revo, Shark, etc? Is the difference that noticeable do you think? I am on Bluefin Stage 1, whilst faster than stock, i'm not convinced 24/7..... :sad1:

Cheers

Andrew

Have you had the car on a RR to get the hp & torque output?
Without traction power is nothing!

Hi there, no i haven't, but i could (sometimes still can even, lol) tell that it's quicker when i put my foot down! Don't get me wrong, BF Stage 1 has provided me with a quicker car, no doubt, but i am seriously considering moving to Stage 2, intake, and Milltech exhaust, so wondering if i should upgrade to a custom map, with actual written readings!?

i had bluefin stage1 2 and 2+, revo blew the bluefin out the water when i moved to their map.

IMO bluefin stage1 is ok but once you start adding boltons you want your car on a rr while someone can tweek the settings of the map, not just another generic map sent over the internet.

There are people on here happy with their bluefin stage 2 and 2+ maps however

Cheers Ed, that's what i was thinking too!! I am pretty sure if i got the custom map, intake and exhaust, i probably wouldnt have much change out of £2k though!! On this theme, would doing all 3 on the same day be feasible do you think, or more practical doing at different times?

Cheers

Andrew

well it costs to keep going back for map tweeks so id either get exhaust and intake fitted then get a map or all at once.

yeah, so once you get your car mapped i.e stage 1. to go to stage 2 or 2+ is usually £50 but then say you fit an intercooler and you want the map tweeking to take full benefit for that extra mod they will take more pennys for their time!

Short answer yes you can it will just cost £50+VAT on top of whatever a Stage 1 map costs from REVO.

Cheers Carl! Whilst acceleration is not exactly my main concern here, what sort of 0-60 times we talking about with these 3 mods? Any idea?

0-60 is more a test of how well you can launch the car than the acceleration of the car.

EG - i could launch my car to 62mph in X time - Give the car to Jenson Button and he would do it quicker.

A rough rule of thumb is you knock 0.5 secs off for every 50bhp gained (obviously to a point as you would never be going back in time )

....Exactly. Professional racing driver Jonny Cocker drove my car up the Santa Pod 1/4-mile faster than I did.

It's not all about 0-60 times though, and not even about maxxing out the bhp. My advice is to go for a well balanced car with driveability. By taking it step by step you will learn what does what and also, very importantly, IF there are any issues they can be diagnosed and solved more easily.
