Tyre time, Goodyear F1 Assy or Michelin Pilot sport 2?

Ready to replace all 4 tyres on my GTI. Original Conti 2 only lasted 8000 miles, changed them for the Goodyear assy's. They've been really good and lasted twice as long. Was going for the Goodyears, then got a price for the Michelin pilot sport 2. The Pilots are only £6 a tyre more. Which tyre will I get the most miles out of? Any recommendations? Cheers

think i would probably go fo the michelin if only 6 quid more im sure they will last a lot longer although the f1's are meant to be better for grip, tough decision

They had loads of tread on them and cost me £50 a tyre !!!

They do the job - grip pretty well - flooring on first gear you get some spin on the upper rev range. Why should i pay more money for michelline or Goodyear  etc....  ?

What are your thoughts on this. ?

My thoughts are get the best you can.

I have no experience of "Sunny" tyres, but would like to bet that if you swapped them for some Goodyears, Vredesteins or Michelins you would instantly tell the difference for the better.

ETTO, I buy the best I can afford, just like my car.

You hurtle around the roads, and the only thing that keeps you on the road is 4 small contact areas, each about 6" diameter.  I would arther have a tyre that had been developed through years of testing, and place the security of my car in that tyre.

Remember - Power is nothing without control, if you are happy trusting you pride and joy in the hands of the cheapest tyre you can get, which is cheap for a reason (little or no development), then it is up to you, but for me, i always buy the best I can afford.

I was recommended the Goodyear's on this site and knew they topped the EVO tyre test. These are £108, the michelins £114 for the 17" monzas.

Mich Pilot Sport 2

All day long.

i've had most tyres going, currently on T1R's and nothing for me has ever performed like the mich's in the wet and the dry

cant wait to scrub my way thru the toyo's to get back to them

I've got Michelin Pilot Sport 2 extra load on mine and I have to say I'm looking forward to the day I can change them. They have much less grip in the wet, a little less in the dry and numbed the steering when compared to the Continental Conti Sport 2s the car was supplied with.

Unfortunately they are wearing well :( .. They don't have as good rim protection either. 

A good mate of mine has the Bridgestone RE50As on his GTI in the same size and they seem to offer as good steering feel as the Contis did, plus they have much better rim protection.

Personally, I'm going to go for the Bridgestones or the Goodyears next.

I have vredestein ultrac sessanta on my Monza 17" and i found them very good when they were on my car, the ride with them was better than the falkens i have on now but maybe its because i have 18" now

Yes, I believe we do. My car was supplied with them from VW and on the last change also requested XL to which the tyre place said thats what their computer tells them is required.

Also had a price of £102 ea for Conti's 3 and £112 for Bridgestone RE050A's. I can't make my mind up!
