i think iv got a boost leak
« on: May 05, 2012, 10:08:51 am »
recently i had my car stage 2+ mapped. its a gti k03. anyway i thought i might have a boost leak so today i fitted a boost gauge. the car peaks at 23psi and continuasly drops down to 10psi buy the time i hit 5500rpm. is this normal or have i got a leak. its not my dv as i have a forge one and have just serviced it with a new yellow spring and a service kit from forge. anyhelp would be great. cheers paul

Yup looks like you do have a leak, It should maintain around 1.5bar then drop slightly around 1.3 -(20psi)- 1.4 possible 1.2bar but not under 1bar. (14.5psi).

Anyone local to do data logging ?

If you check the VCDS register, someone local to you might be able to do some logging for you.

Iv heard Forge items leak, especially if they install the wrong spring ?!?

A simple data logging of the boost pressure will tell you if you have a leak!

done a boost leak test today. found 4 leaks. huge leak on intercooler coupling, one on my bsh pcv fix, one on my maf, and one on a little pipe next to the pcv. i also found one on my rocker cover gasket. should i replace the gasket.
now the car still peaks at 23psi and holds bout 17-18psi till bout 5500rpm then drops down to about 12psi. does that sound normal or should it hold 18psi to redline.

also after i done my boost leak test and started the car up it smoked loads. i didnt block the rear pcv off though so thats proberly why. hope it hasnt done any damage. :stupid:
