Springs use your existing suspension to lower the car.

Coilovers use new suspension struts and springs. The ride quality is usually firm and not as comfortable as standard as they use fixed damping which is approx 30% stiffer

Coilovers go lower than springs but you compromise ride quality. Springs are cheaper usually from anywhere from £100 - £200. Coilovers are £200 upto £1k+.

Im sure someone else will be along shortly to give more info!
