Yet Another noobie exhaust question !
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:43:06 pm »
Hey folks ,

Hope you don't mind me asking a question that's probably been asked a few hundred times before ! , I've trawled my way through forum post after forum post and still cant make heads or tails of half of what i read ! It might as well be French to me !

But anyway I digress,
my question is , can someone explain to me what exhaust upgrade solutions i would have available , how easy are they to do and such like.
I currently have an '04 GT TDI , now while i love the sound of a diesel , it could be better !
I understand that an after market exhaust system would not only give me a nicer sound but would also improve performance.
Could anyone do me a favour and explain things to this simple confused noob !

I would first of all like a lower , more growl like exhaust note , second i would like it to improve performance and finally I would actually like to see my exhaust tips ! , not a huge fan of  the apparently "Discrete" design on the TDI

My apologies in advance to anyone who reads this and thinks Christ...not another noob who cant search for himself. I can honestly say I've been there and tried , tried being the operative word , as I mentioned before , it might as well be French...and i failed that at school many years ago :P

Thanks in advance too ^^
John

Thanks for the rather quick response there 81lly. I appreciate it.
That is sort of what I would like to achieve , I prefer the dual pipes snugly on the left as shown in your pic , and the sound isn't bad either :P

Muppet question time...TBE ? the amount of acronyms and phrases in use confused the hell out of me lol
Is a setup like this still road legal ? By that i mean i hear a lot of de-catting , which from what i gather means removing the catalytic converter , does this not mean that the engine produces more emissions and thus fails at MOT time.
I'm happy to pay for a good setup , but want to get it right first time , with no hassle or risk when it comes to MOT's , I'm just not the kind of person who settles for a bodge job  ! :P

Thanks again ,

Not trying to be a pessimist but after spending a bit of time googling , it would seem like de-catting is becoming illegal ?
From what ive read so far , the case is usually just smoke tests and such but now it would seem that if the MOT test centre cant actually see the cat then its a fail...Im now confused , i didnt know much to begin with and now

Exhaust
A catalytic convertor fitted as original equipment but missing will be a reason for failure.

Diesel's  only get tested for smoke ? , plus mine being built in '04 should make me ok ?

Now that's cleared things up a bit and put my mind at rest !

Getting back on topic a bit...:P What kind of systems do I have available , companies ? , suppliers ? , fitters ?
What kind of price would I expect to pay.

Basically what i want to do , is hand over the keys and some hard earned cash and have it all done professionally...lazy granted , but at least it would be done right.

Milltek seems to be a popular choice , tried looking at the website...confused myself...came back here !

Been having a looking around online for a supplier , or at the very least , get a sense of the cost
Would this be what I'm looking for ?
