Got bored so did this (pic of cover now on the car)
« on: May 07, 2012, 09:05:48 pm »
Got rather bored over the bank holiday weekend so thought i'd have a mess around with my engine cover, finished up smoothing it then painting it audi dolphin grey, which i had laying around. Could have been better but only painted it in the shed.  :signLOL:

I'll get a pic up once fully dry and on the car.

Looks great.
Do you just use normal primer/ paint / laquer?
Did you rub the plastic down first or use filler primer to get it smooth?
Thanks

I gave it a rub down to start with just to get a good key, then used fibreglass filler. Rubbed that down then used normal filler, smoothed that then etch primed followed by hi build primer then 3 coats of paint and 4 coats of lacquer.

Hope this helps  :happy2:

Pic of the cover on the car, unsure whether to paint centre or just leave it oem looking.

Paint the centre gloss black IMHO, do the FSI TURBO sign a different colour though.

.
Definitely do something about the OEM centre strip - They get dirty/greasy very easily, are a P.I.T.A to clean and never look smart.
