Rear wiper replacement
« on: May 12, 2009, 12:35:24 pm »
Having had problems with the rear wiper on my 05 GTI,  I've decided to replace it with a wiper motor  I got from ebay. I found VERY CHERRY s post with how to remove/replace the rear wiper motor but does anyone know is removing the " lower rear  lid (hatch) trim" to get access to the motor easy ?  Any tips as where to start or how to.. without damaging the trim ?
Thanks

What was your wiper motor doing?  Mine's started wagging away every other startup and when it has a moment it stops anywhere it wants!

I swapped my inner lights the other day, I found that from the bottom was the best place to start when removing and at the top when putting it back on.  Don't forget to remove the 2 screws in the grab handles.

The rear wiper  seems to have a mind of its own.  It would come on of it own accord at start up . Sometimes I could   switch it off other times I would have to turn off the  ignition to get it to stop.

Just an update on the above.   The diagnosis of a wiper motor change to fix the rear wipers tendency to operate with a mind of its own was spot on. Thanks to info provided on this site I successfully replaced the wiper motor and it is  working as it should now. Aside from the money saved (bought from ebay 25 quid) there is a satisfaction in fixing the problem your self.
Thanks.

Why did you remove the entire trim as you should be able to change those lights just using the pop out pieces of trim at the sides.

There's one bolt thats pretty tough to get at through the access panels, it was a lot easier to take the trim off than struggle with a spanner then lose the nut behind the trim!

Looks like the trim is coming off again then, I have the same issues with my wiper
