Some are sticklers for same tyres front and rear but not me. If it works for you why not?

Mine did Robin. I had Vred Setantras on the back and Pirelli P Zero Rosso assymetrics on the back, and the ESP was always flickering on. Since I've had the Pirelli's all round, I see the ESP a lot less.

I would have changed all four but my rears are like new and my fronts have a few mm so I thought I'd just get two. Didn't think it would matter. What do I know 

I know how you feel Iain, I couldn't justify buying 4 new tyres when 2 still had tread left, but having 4 all the same with about 5k on the front and brand new on the back has made a massive difference, compared to the 6 months of mixed tyres.

....I had a particularly spirited drive today on a local B-road and noticed several times that the ESP kicked in just for a very short split second each time. I think it was because I still have Dunlop Maxx TT's on the front and (new) Eagle F1 v2's on the back.

Ditto with F1 Aysm on the front, Asym2 on the rear. Very noticeable if pressing on and surprisingly evident even at moderate speeds. I found I had to turn the ESP off, as the intervention of ESP was very unsettling. Matching asym2 front and rear and no problem at all.

Believe me, you would not want to drive the B coast road I was on without ESP! I just ignore and drive through the ESP hiccups - It seems to work on my setup.

The ESP in my situation was spitting its dummy out for no good reason at times - only moderate cornering loads caused it to kick up a fuss. I forgot to turn it off driving on a lovely twisty road in proximity to the N-ring, and the first time it kicked in was when trail braking into a corner. Most unnecessary and resulted in a quick press of the ESP button to restore enjoyment to the drive - I was making progress, but not being reckless. There wasn't a hint of noise from the tyres, it just seems the slip angles of the asym1 vs asym2 are sufficiently different to confuse the ESP.

I just bought two Eagle F1 2's off Camskill to replace my noisy and not-so-great Potenza's... ordered them yesterday at 12.30pm and that's them just arrived

^ Definitely regarded as one of the very best road tyres for the Mk5 GTI. We need to realise that although generic in design, different tyres can suit various cars to different degrees.

I don't reckon there is much differene between putting them on the front or rear to me that video looked like she took her foot off the accelerator as soon as it started to understeer and it looked like she kept her foot down and didn't try to do anything with the steering wheel to keep the back in check obviously to prove a point
