5 Dr more expensive/ hold value better than 3Dr?

Been looking for a 5 door as we have a baby but typically seems 3 doors versions are cheaper and easier to come by... Is this true or just my luck?!   :sad1:

Yes I believe 5 doors demand a slightly higher asking price compared to a 3 door model.

I prefer the 5 door for practicality with the kids and also shorter doors when opening in car park spaces etc, not sure how good the access is behind the 3 door seats if you were considering a 3 door for a saving etc but I'm sure some knowledgable guys on here will help answer that  :smiley:

Thanks. I defo need a 5 door, don't think wife would appreciate a 3 door but wanted to know if it were just the cars I was looking at or if 5 doors were indeed more expensive...

5drs are always more expensive. if you need a 5dr then make sure you get one.... or you will regret it later. Getting 'stuff' out of the back is not as easy as it is with 2 extra doors.

Just what I wanted to hear as I've just sold my 1 series due to not having enough room...

I've got a 3 year old and just bought a 5 door mk5 GTI. Plenty of room for all his crap - def more than my old Mazda 3 anyway. I know babies have more 'crap' to cart about but you should be fine.

The resale is slightly higher because the initial price of the 5dr new would be higher.
(it has more parts than a 3dr)

I personally love the look of the 5dr Gti.

There are so many cars that can't compete with the sporty looks of a 3dr, but the Gti looks amazing and is very practical.

If I had kids, I wouldn't want a 3dr.

When I was looking to Buy a 5Dr GTI ED30 there were a lot less of them for sale than 3dr and it seemed to me the prices for 5dr were around £750 more on average, I think the main thing is practicality, I wanted one so I did not have to struggle getting my golf clubs off the back seat  :grin:

I have 2 kids (4yr old and a 2 yr old). I have a 3dr GTI and its great for getting the kids in and out much more room, as you can get in the back with them and put them in straight instead of side on. We had a hire car last week 5dr I30 (horrible) and it was a pain in the ass getting the kids strapped in as the doors are smaller.

One thing i would deff get is a Isofix base, the car seat just clips in and saves alot of time.

i have had alot of cars over the last 4 years, 3/5 door and even a vauxhall zafira (her choice) and the 3dr is by are the best option for getting the kids in (trying to strap a child in from the side when they are going nuts is not easy) unless you are getting a 4x4, i would go for the 3dr.

Strapping kids in when they're going nuts is hard whether you have a three or five dr!!  :jumping:

I bought the five door specifically to have my cake and eat it with the kids, and I haven't been disappointed. Its not just the child - as someone else has already mentioned its the crap you have to take with it! In addition I went for 'wipe-clean' leather interior.

One other thing - get the rubber mats for the inevitable spillages, crumbs and .....erm.....:sick:

As said, the 3-door version looks more sporty but the 5-door is more practical, especially when manhandling (or womanhandling) goods.

Forget babies and small children, just stopping to let a rear passenger out (or in) is a real pain with any 2-door car.
