Speed limit now shown on screen
« on: May 09, 2012, 09:25:17 pm »
I used to have the limit shown on the screen, but for some reason it's disappeared and I don't see the option for it on the screen anywhere. Anybody got any ideas? Is there an option in VCDS that I may have missed or inadvertently changed?

IIRC there is a box you can select in the map or navi section of the RNS setup.  :happy2:

I put in a new disc with the same level maps, but updated POI's and cameras, but it didn't ask me to update or anything so assumed it didn't. Perhaps this has caused the issue as the timing does correlate.

Anybody got any ideas?

I just updated the firmware to 4020 hoping it would bring it back, but still no option for that.

Not all roads have the speed limit displayed.

I am on 4024 firmware and it is shown on mine. To ensure it is displayed

Press Setup > In the setup menu select Map > Scroll down > Ensure there is a tick in "Show Speed Limitation"

After this do a soft reset just to give it a kick up the hoop as changing the POI database can sometimes cause it to sulk  :happy2:

.
Does that mean that every time you went over 60, or 70 on a M'way, it displays it (as a warning?) on your screen? - I wouldn't want that!

If the limit isn't on the database and doesn't display that's not good if you are silly enough to rely on the display.

No.

When you are on a road which has a limit, say a motorway, it will display a 70 speed sign in the top right corner. It doesn't change no matter what speed you do. Some roads (like minor roads in a housing estate etc) it won't display anything. I don't think you could use it as an excuse to do 90 though

Can you not set a warning on the Highline like you can on the Maxidot (Skoda equivalent) where the dash will ping at you if you go over a pre set speed?

Thanks Carl, but that option is no longer there to put a tick in?????? IT did work before and the option definitely was there?

Will go and have a play on VCDS, perhaps something has changed.

Are you sure your on 4020?

All firmwares from 2660 and above and V6 maps (it may even be V5 i need to check) have the speed limit display.

....Don't worry, Rich - Carl likes to roger anything which moves. [Perhaps you should worry afterall!]

Switching off the ping everytime I exceeded 70 was one of the first things I did when I first drove my car. The worst thing about it is that the actual ping is exactly the same as all other audible alerts and warnings and so imagine as you accelerate from 60 to overtake and the ping goes off as you overtake, your immediate thought is that something has gone wrong. Very distracting and totally unnecessary in my opinion.
