My outside tap.... thoughts?
« on: May 17, 2009, 06:14:09 pm »
Giving up on it now so thought i would put a post up here for ideas as autoperfection will be landing on my doorstep to detail 2 cars soon, so need to solve this

my house was built in the 70's and 2 years ago i moved in. the tap had an orange adaptor on it to allow me to click a hoselock hose end onto it and therefore meant i could wash the cars and buy a pressure washer.

well, the adaptor snapped.

the tap is a brass thing, not old, with a threaded end. i've been scouring for a new adaptor everywhere and nothing fits! i've bought almost everything from B&Q and Wyevale garden center and no joy, none of the adaptors, step ups or step downs etc will go on.

the closest i found was a 19mm one and that seems to be almost right but is just a fraction too small, almost as if it could do with being 19.5 or 20mm (a 21 is too big)

i know this is an odd question, but officially stumped now. currently suffering with a push-on-and-clamp-rubber-adaptor-piece-of-rubbish that sprays half the water up the wall and not down the hose

by some freak of nature has this happened to anyone else? am i just being dumb or do i need to get a plumber in to put me a new tap on?

:chicken:

We've got a local company to us called Building and Plumbing supplies who do all that sort of stuff - we could pop in and see what they've got... if there's anything that looks like it might be right we could always pop it in the post for you to try?

Well we can pop into BPS and see what we can find - if there's something that fits then hey-presto, problem solved... if not though, we'll work something out for when we're down there  :happy2:

19mm one and that seems to be almost right but is just a fraction too small, almost as if it could do with being 19.5 or 20mm (a 21 is too big)

19mm = 0.748 in
19.5mm = 0.767 in

You have a 3/4 inch tap.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Are you able to measure the width of the spout with a ruler or something?

I wonder whether the tap's changed dimensions being out in the kinda environment you're describing?

Anyway, I guess you already bout this? clicky

(Edited the clicky)

^^^Updated the link as the b&q one had the thread on the outside, not the inside which is required.

I would take the tap off the base plate (leaving that in place & replace the tap (body)

does that make sense :confused: :confused:

i does year, but if its an usual thread at one end it would suggest it would be at the base plate to meaning a new tap wouldnt go on, meaning a plumbing route. the previous adaptor was just a cheap bit of plastic, one of those would be a much more economical route

thanks for the idea though, it may well be the route i have to take
