K04 internal conversion/upgrade
« on: May 11, 2012, 04:14:31 am »
Rather than replacing the existing turbo, What options are there in converting the K04 to a hybrid, or upgrading its internal compressor?

A mate of mine has a Focus RS - he was running 385bhp and sent his turbo away for a compressor replacement (apparently a Porsche 997 compressor was installed) and he is now running around 430bhp

Now I don't know anything about the internals of turbo's, but I'm sure somebody here has some sort of experience on this?

GIAC also have a hybrid extreme file.

There are many other things to consider if you are thinking of going for a hybrid K04 upgrade. Fuelling is one of them. The "in-tank" low pressure fuel pump need uprating (internals like the HPFP) and also RS4 injectors (you can use OEM K04, but they are limited). All these add up.

Think Custard Code might do them too  :ashamed:

I was talking to Luke at Jabba and he told me his ED30 K04 Hybrid is running S3 intercooler and Std Injectors, I asked if it was necessary for larger injectors and adding FMIC's and he said larger injectors were not required, uprated fuel pump was tho, he also said he was not running an additional FMIC at front and said the S3 alloy version did the job just fine and his was running 400bhp.

The RS4 injectors aren't a pre-requisite for a hybrid conversion, but they do make better power. I was speaking to Steve Jr at Statllers ages ago when they were doing development work with GIAC. They ran 438bhp/440lbft on their dyno and it isn't a particularly high reading dyno! (this was with WMI too!)
