Better mpg from remap?
« on: May 12, 2012, 06:43:07 pm »
I have only had my gti for a few weeks now and after getting a bluefin I found out the car was already mapped before. so haven't even driven a standard gti.

I have a bit of a long drive ahead of me tomorrow and am wondering if I would save some fuel if I put the car back to the standard map or just leave the bluefin on

Most of the driving will be dual carriageway (no motorways for 70 miles here)

In general a stage 1 mapped car will return better MPG than a standard 1.

Bluefinned mine a few weeks ago and the fuel economy has increased by around 3-4 MPG :happy2:

When I got the car it was giving me around 30mpg on the trip computer for the first week.

I had new tyres fitted and changed the oil and filter and now it's hovering about 26mpg for the same trips.

Still the same after installing the bluefin. well got 16mpg on Friday after a stressful day at work :fighting:

I have since changed the fuel filter and spark plugs and it has increased slightly (28mpg) so I'm not sure if mapping the car is making any improvement.

I'll just leave the map on for the trip

Hopefully a long drive at a steady speed might clear things up a bit

But think I will put the standard map on at some point so I can appreciate the bluefin

All on driving, put your foot down or sharp acceleration then a mapped one will drink more. If im honest im more or less stage 2 in my Gti and my average mpg for a tank ranges from 26-32mpg. Not noticed an increase or decrease since mapping.

Same as above, The first few tanks I was getting 270 miles/tank, as I was 'experimenting'

I'm now getting around 310 miles per tank which is about the same as before the map really. But it all depends how many miles I drive, and how many 'The Kerbinator' gets to drive

I think a lot must depend on your driving style! I drive an unmodified car and if I drive sensibly I can get at least 40 mpg, my record is 45!. In general, if i'm doing long journeys at motorway speeds I get about 400 miles a tank. However if I put my foot down, it drops drastically of course!

40-45 mpg?! Bloomin' eck, I've never got near that. I doubt Mother Teresa would get 45mpg!  :notworthy:

'The Kerbinator'

Very funny!! :signLOL:
If my bird pulls up to the kerb and I'm in the passenger seat I get this horrid sick feeling in my stomach. And I ride on 17's!! If I had 18's I'd have had a cardiac arrest by now!

It's do-able if you keep off the boost - country lanes following traffic usually gets me into the low 40's. :happy2:

At what revs does the "boost" come on?

On a K03 GTI you can get the turbo to spool between 1-2k but you can keep the boost down by using the throttle gently
