Personally before I had my gti (which started as a low spec) I had a 210bhp Alfa Romeo brera the 5 cylinder turbo diesel model and it was gorgeous, highest spec and great to drive. But alas it had a typical Alfa Romeo temperament so sold up, and as my gf is a Vdub nut a got the mk5 gti. Omg although it's low spec (at the beginning) its so much faster, lighter more of a go kart on roids and I love it so much and haven't looked back since. But also I've slowly added leather, colour coding, etc etc as I've gone along over the past 18months. Will be starting a build thread on it soon when it's had a few more things done, but I'll never be going back to diesel again that's fo sho
