Quick wiring question
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:15:58 am »
I've purchased a 2nd hand Pioneer head unit from Ebay, it came out of a Mk5 so got the facial and basic loom, i need to wire in a switched live which i think i also understand now from other posts but splitting the Red cable and routing to the fuse box.

My query now is for the antenna cable i got with it that came out of the golf, i can't figure where the power cable is suppose to be plugged in or is there a cable inside the car for that or is this just a booster i can ignore, guessing it wouldn't work without it though. I'm assuming i cant use the spare bullet on the perm live.

Also should i disconnect the blue remote cable as i don't (yet!) have an external amp etc.

Edit: am i suppose to have a twin cable, it's just an rcd300 in there at the moment.

pic attached.

Ok so i ran a red cable from the red wire to the fuse box but the head unit is still coming on without keys in ignition, tried a few diff slots.

Hmmm that's strange. My pioneer works fine using that method, maybe you just need to try some different slots that's all I can suggest. All I can remember is I located mine in the bottom left side of the fusebox.

Did you manage to fit the aerial adapter ok? Does the aerial amp wire go to the red wire on the loom?

couldn't find anything for the Ariel but it seem to be working okay without it, although i had two connections but a simple head so i had to pick one!

anyone know if theres a prefered slot to use in the fuse box, all the slots i tried with the slightly larger spade seemed to give a live connection even without keys.
