I actually didn't mean to rattle anyone's cage or offend anyone, if I have, then sorry.

I was simply posting my findings, as people have been asking and being honest, I was curious too! If it came across as me being a chav or bragging then it wasn't meant like that, it would be so easy to get into an argument about it about whats right and wrong, peoples opinions etc but what's the point? Life's too short.

As I said, didn't mean to offend anyone. For the record it was obviously on a private road. :)

Carry on...

....Apology accepted - You certainly did rattle my cage due to your choice of words and how I consequently interpreted your post. When someone says "private road" it's generally assumed that it's very doubtful if it was and what is done on a public road always requires responsible driving. Like richwig, I don't stick to the 60 and 70's (subject to safe driving conditions) but am absolutely rigid on the 20/30/40's and most but not all 50's (they've stuck a 50 limit on a local B-road which frankly should have remained 60).

Take very great care, as I expect you will, or your life may indeed be too short  There's a time and a place for everything.

Top speed of mine is 70mph officer  :signLOL: but in Germany it suddenly gets faster but the best place to test your car is on a track day  :driver:

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

Have highlighted the appropriate comment you made and Yes it is. PLEASE DON'T carry on with this sort of attitude and flagrant disragade for your and others lives as how fast your car or your mates cars go is of no importance or interest. I have no problem with driving flat out and for "top speed" or "0-60" etc etc BUT that's why we go to organised events at drag strips, airfields and tracks where (god forbid) the emergency services are at hand.
Am honestly not having a go, I would say this (and have done) to my daughters partners about driving fast.

I also don’t understand why certain speed limits are given to certain sections of road - I mean who the hell decides these things?
I’ve been on dual carriageway A roads (like some parts of the A406 – North Circular in London) where the road has 3 lanes on each side and they decide to give it a 40mph speed limit???????? WTF
You then drive down a country road that’s as wide as my bathroom and you can barely fit 1 car down it (and have to reverse ½ mile if another car comes down at the same time) and that also has a 40mph speed limit?????

....Often it's simply because there have been accidents on a stretch of road. And yet those accidents are surely the fault of those involved and very rarely due to poor road design.

I know of someone on here that has been know to hit 130-140mph in 30 zones. Personally i think they are just damn right retarded, have no regard for their own lives or anyone elses for that matter. People like that should be banned from driving for life. As said we all break the law at some point or another but those speeds are just ridiculous. SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK.

Had a little play tonight in my car, on a private road of course.

All I'm going to say is this: people have had forum posts taken and used as evidence against them. "Private road" means sweet FA (unless you're willing to show which private road it was and able to prove that you're able to achieve what you've stated). There are stories of people being prosecuted based on forum posts so you can't use the excuse "I was lying/making it up/joking". Even insurance companies that have forum car club schemes will monitor your posts.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

What If I said I managed 245mph on the M1 in my Bugatti Veyron, they would have a hard time proving that, I have not been on the M1 recently nor do I have a Bugatti Veyron

In all seriousness, we all break the law "When we see fit" but not all of us do crazy speeds, the plod will happlily let you pass them at 80+mph (On motorway, not through a village!) as long as your not driving like a tool, safe driving and not being reckless and they leave you alone.

....I don't have any sympathy for those who exceed the 30 and 40 zones and to do 130+ in those zones really angers me and I really hope they get caught and banned for life before someone gets killed. I would shop someone like that if I could - Inform the Police so they could keep a special eye out and catch them. It's not so much the 130 which bothers me but doing it in a 30 zone.

I think the law works differently. It's up to Police to prove you did something wrong and not up to you to prove you didn't! It's the innocent presumption etc so you can tell what you want on forums I would think. Unless somebody can bring up some precedence case.

Having said that as discussed above driving 100 mph above speed limit especially in 20-40 zone is pure insanity and complete stupid and those who do so should be banned for life!

Someone I used to work with got banned for doing 63 in a 30, it was a road he drove regularly and goes from 60mph to 30mph limit, unfortunately for him having had 2 weeks holiday in america he returned home and the first day back at work he was banned for speeding as the council had moved the 30mph limit back some 350yards further up the road and there happend to a speed camera van parked up at the end, sneaky of them but he was still in the wrong as he should have seen the signs anyway

We use a reasonable driver test to prove offences so a driver clearly knows if he or she is driving below a standard required. No defence really unless there are reasons i.e emergency or life or death. But a court has to make that decision if the driving was reasonable given the situation.
