Outer CV Boot Replacement
« on: May 14, 2012, 09:33:05 am »
My Nearside outer CV Boot needs replacing and I was thinking of getting one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270777463423?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Anybody had experience of using one.

I would like to replace the CV Boot myself and I know that OE kit from VW is only about 18 pounds but I don't think I have the right tools to remove hub/spline etc.

Any help would be gratefuly received.

I've never had much success with those myself but it's better than nothing I guess.

Personally i wouldn't bother with that kit as they never fit right, get a original or after market one,you can then fitted for £60

The last CV boot that went on mine I just replaced the full drive shaft :happy2: cost less than the CV boot kit and I had a new DS to boot

Just look on eBay and find the drive shaft you need... :happy2:

Darren

PS its actually quicker to change a full drive shaft than do the CV boot

As others have said, those universal kits are pretty useless. On my old mk4 it used to like killing cv boots so I kept one of them in the boot for emergencies. Never got it to fit properly though. Ended up cable tie-ing it over the split one more often than not

I've used the boot kits on a Passat with some success. They do need a lot of patience though but if you follow the instructions closely they do work. A lot easier than stripping the drive shaft.
