Highline Retrofit Problems
« on: May 14, 2012, 08:00:19 am »
Hi.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm struggling to retrofit a highline cluster I've just bought. I've managed to extract the Secret Access Code from the old cluster, I used Vag Commander 4.5. When I put the new cluster in though, I can't extract the SAC. It's a 972 cluster. The message I get reads cannot retrieve access code, try resetting the cluster and try again. I've heard I need another version of Vag Commander, but I can't get 1.4 to work. Keeps saying dog init error or cannot open port.

Any help would be appreciated. PMs welcome as I know this is a tender subject.

Thanks!

I know it's a bit of an obvious one but is ignition on when trying to read skc from new cluster?

Also run vag commander in admin mode.

Yep ignition is on. Same procedure as reading the old cluster but just doesn't work. I'll try running it in admin mode. When I try to open 1.4 it says it can't open the file as windows does not recognise it or I don't have the right permissions. Would admin mode overcome this?

Thanks.

Luka have you got anti virus on while running 1.4??? loads of anti virus delete vag commander 1.4 :fighting:so you either need to use a computer with no AVS or turn it off while you use it

In addition to what's been suggested, if you have ANY interruption signals being sent to the cluster, then it can fail to communicate. Basically, close ALL doors and plug seat belt in when sitting.

There are also loads of versions out there, first time I used it, it tool many attempts to get the right version.

Do you require the SKC - can you not do the immo copy&paste way?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

All sorted now! It was the antivirus which was the problem. Disabled AVG and it worked perfect. All fitted now and just finished clearing fault code/doing basic settings.

Cheers for all the help guys. Raz, top work again mate, thanks!  :happy2:

Out of interest, how much were the parts and how easy is it physically to change it over?

Paid £150 delivered for a cluster from USA, that included customs charges. Then you need Vag Commander or someone with it. Changing the cluster is easy, two screws and the old one pulls out, fit the new one. In honesty, the hardest part was clearing all the fault codes after!

There is a How To on here somewhere. Great mod though!

Luke, Glad you got it working mate  :happy2:

AVG is a pain to work with, it deleted my VCDS and k+ Commander. But adding it into the exceptions works great.
