Rear badge question
« on: May 15, 2012, 06:00:09 pm »
I originally posted this in the wrong area so this is a redirected post-

Could anyone confirm whether this is the correct MK4 badge part to stripped down and attach to the rear of a MK5 car?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270976859172?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

I know the mk5 will need to be stripped and paited itself, but I dont want to buy the wrong part...obviously!

If it is not correct could someone plese point me in the direction of a MK4 chrome badge that can be used to replace my knackared wormed one? or
even the part number that I need?

I phoned up Caffyns VW asking for the part number and spoke to possible the rudest cretin on the planet.

Thank you in advance

I would of pm'ed some of the members on here after reading a few how to's, but I dont think I can pm being so new??

As far as I know the rear badge cannot be brought on it's own from VW.  They sell the complete rear boot handle with the badge  :happy2:

You could try removing the boot handle and popping the badge off to clean it or paint it. Easy job to do..  :happy2:

I've got the same problem mate, white worming.

can't simply do as said above because we have the old style badges. you can replace with the newer ones but they stick out too far apparently. so annoying.

if the mk4 rear works, then id be really interested i think i have my old one lying round from my old mk4 somewhere. if its still in one piece ill have a look.

hmmm, it really seems to be a PITA, there is no obvious, cheap and easy solution.

I may just rub down and paint the old one, at least it will fit correctly, although me and a can of spray paint dont always work well together!

And another thing I have found is the strange part numbers that VW bombard you with, I must have seen 10 different part numbers for what looks the same part, which is whats confusing me. I just know im gonna end up buying the wrong part.

Sod it, im going to the scrappy today!

I bought a mk4 badge off ebay and took it apart so I was just left with the chrome badge. Took all the tabs off the back and stuck it on my rear boot handle after I had rubbed it down and sprayed the same colour as the car (Tornado Red).

Does not stick out that much!

Will post a picture up this evening.

Took the old badge off as it had loads of whiteworm and sprayed handle on the car.

I have offered my Mk4 boot badge to Spooky1 but will have a look at it tonight and put up a picture of it if I can find a part number. It has both the black back ing on it and the silver badge (in excellent condition) so there may be two part No's.  :happy2:

Will prob fill the little hole and respray again with lacquer on the handle soon.

Still cheaper than new handle!

Apologies for the dirty car will be cleaned this weekend :happy2:

Not sure how much the new badge sticks out. I must admit looking at my photo it does stick out quite a bit. I think I will see if I can re-shape the inside of the badge so it sits a bit better, need to find a dremmel or some sand paper, think of this as work in progress  :happy2:. (Unless anyone else has some ideas, other than a newer handle!)

Wow! Thanks guys, you really are a helpful bunch!

Dodds-gttdi thank you so much for your kind offer, I actually went  to the scrappy yesterday to grab an injector for a friends car, when i saw a golf with the newer 3D handle on!

Talk about luck...£20 !

Ive tested it and its a perfect fit, Yes it seems to poke out a little bit but its much better then the worm!

Ill post the part number a little later because its slightly different to the numbers caffyns gave me
