Hi Guys, I was hoping someone could help me with a problem?
I hav an 05 GTI, Well I say I, I gave it to the missus so shes kinda taken control of it!
One morning it wouldnt start, It turned over but wouldnt fire up. I got it to the mechanics and it was the fuel pump, he stripped the pump and found that the solidoid in it was faulty?? Im no mechanic so Im goin by what he said (he's been a mate for a long time). He says he tapped the solinoid and it worked again, I decided as my missus was using it I wanted it to be reliable so orderd a new genuine one from VW. Within 2 days of that being fitted the fuel gauge stopped working, being busy I told her Ide get it to the mechanics in a few days as it still drove. Well a couple of days past and it did the same thing again, turned over first thing in the morning but wouldnt start. I got it to the mechanic and he said the new pump had seized and was rusty. My thought was that there must be contamination of some type, Water etc (it has done 120,000 miles), So I helped the mechanic fully drain the tank (It didnt look like clean petrol at the bottom), we also drained the pipe to the fuel filter and replaced the filter. I then got another used pump from fleebay. Put the pump in along with £30 of petrol from the local total garage, horay she started and the next morning it wouldnt, by now I am becoming a pro and tested the pump, it was dead!!!!
I brought another used pump, put that in, it was perfect all day and again it was dead the following morning, thats 4 Pumps in total??? I have another new one from Euros sitting there but Im affraid to put it in just in case. Can anyone offer any help to as why it is doing this? It seems when its left over night?
Now heres another problem, I never see the first pump as he threw it away (may have been upgraded?), I have also been told by the previous owner the cars been mapped but I cant find any info in the paperwork to back this up? Please somebody help!
