chipped gti vs ed30 ( which is best)

  Hi all if a mk5 golf gti is chipped to aprox 230-250 bhp would it be better than a std ed30 ?  or can you chip a std golf gti to ed30 spec ?  thanks

chipped stage 1 gti would be comparable to standard ed30 performance wise. However if you plan go beyond 280bhp defo get ed30 as it would be cheaper in the long run to get more power. Also engine internals are stronger so presumable better longevity on big power.

A Stage 1 GTi would be quicker than a standard Ed30 due to the gains in torque. But If you can afford it, get an Ed30, as Stage 1 for a few hundred quid puts you close to 300bhp!

Thanks for that , looks like stage one then !!       Will a standard  gti cope with this ? ( Its not going to be raced or tracked , just be nice to have a bit more power , Anyone had stage one done ? Recomend  a place in west midlands ,Birmingham to have this done ? Cost ?  Thanks

this is unlikely.... my standard clutch did not slip on stage 2+, only now slipping on K04...

My clutch slipped at stage 1 with less than 50k miles (it did produce very good power according to print-out)

I'm from Crewe and I travelled to R-Tech Based upon their reviews and their knowledge / understanding of the TFSI engine

Stage 1 is designed to enhance a stock car without any further modification, but having just been through this myself, the general consensus is that you need to upgrade the Diverter Valve to Revision D and a Pipercross dry panel filter is also a good idea. (K&N filter can interfere with the MAF).
